//Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will hair extensions damage my hair?
The Extensions we choose to use will not harm your hair. The Keratin-bonded system have ready-made bonds which are designed to melt at a low temperature to protect fine and course hair alike. The extensions are flexible and blend with your own hair to create a natural overall finish. They are easy to apply and just as easy to remove.  The weft method is applied to a small section of the natural hair and "sandwiched" between the two fine wefts. Removal is applying a solution to allow the tape to separate easily from the hair. The shrinkies method has absolutely no stickiness. The tube is simply heated to shrink to the natural hair. Removal takes no time at all, the tube easily slides out leaving no sticky residue or damage to the hair. Microbeads are suited only to coarse and very strong hair. We would not use this method on fine or delicate care.

Q. How long do the hair extensions last?
We recommend extensions should be replaced after three months as the bonds grow down. After removal another set of extensions can be re-applied closer to the roots. Sometimes extensions can be re-used if the condition is still of very high quality. Weft extensions can be re-applied approximately every 6 weeks at the same time as a colour service.

Q. What aftercare products should I use?
Your stylist at Icon Studios will recommend the products perfectly suited to your hair and your extensions.

Q. How do I look after them?
Be prepared to allow a little extra time each day to look after your extensions. When you get home, leave the hair for three days before washing to allow the bonds to set properly. We advise you visit the salon within the first week to check the extensions, and at least once a month thereafter for a regular maintenance check.

Q. Can I wash my hair normally?
Once you get home, leave the hair for three days before washing to allow the bonds to set properly. Tip your head back when you wash your hair. Gently massage the scalp. Do not use a scrubbing motion. Always dry the hair and bonds completely. Shampoo immediately after swimming.

Q. What about bedtime?
When going to bed tie your hair in a soft scrunchie to prevent it from tangling, or alternatively a loose plait. Using the extension brush gently work through the hair from the ends up, supporting the bonds and being careful not to tug them.
